President John F. Kennedy gives a historic message to a joint session of Congress, on May 25, 1961. Behind Kennedy are Vice President Lyndon Johnson, on the left,, and Sam T. Rayburn, Speaker of the House .Included in the speech were the words: "I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth."
