Muriel Lilah Matters, an Australian born
suffragist, lecturer, journalist,
educator,
actress and
elocutionist, based in Britain from 1905 till her death, here shown on a postcard sent in 1909.
She and a colleague, Helen Fox, famously chained themselves to an
iron grille in the House of Commons as a part of the campaign for
women’s suffrage.
Original postcard.
